Bras are simply the worst. Digging straps, cup spillage, never a perfect fit, expensive for the quality it is, the cons are endless. There’s a reason we look forward to taking off these contraptions at the end of the day and letting our melons breathe.
Sports bras on the other hand, can also have these exact same problems despite their intended purpose of being a more supportive and comfortable knocker locker. Sure, most sports bras don’t have an underwire, but buying one that doesn’t fit you well for the intended purpose, will defeat the entire concept of wearing one to begin with.
I used sports bras from quite a number of companies, and they never held up (pun unintended) their end of the deal. Those same problems I listed at the top of this article, happened as well, and I wasn’t having any of it. Of course I just dealt with the discomfort until I would find a better alternative (like most people) and bras aint cheap!
Mark and I attended the Crossfit Games in California back in 2015, and bless his soul, he’s always looking out for my well-being and wants to make sure that I get the best products for my comfort. Thankfully he loves to shop as well, and he stumbled upon a booth of mainly sports bras (and some athletic clothing) from the company, Lorna Jane. I’m sure you’ve had your fair share of exhausting contortionist choreography while trying to remove a tight sports bra after a work-out (because it doesn’t just come off effortlessly).
So of course there was a heat wave during the Games, and putting on those bras to try on in a tiny tent (they only had one), with damp skin, and no ventilation while women were lined up waiting for their turn (dear God the anxiety) was stressful, but worth it!
My husband found the Holy Grail of sports bras.
The selection of styles, fabrics, fit, and sizes is a dream come true on finding your perfect bra. The quality is so amazing that the two bras I purchased in 2015, lasted four years with regular wear. Every time they’re washed, it’s like you’re putting them on for the first time. Not only that, the performance is unmatched. I’ve had bras from Lululemon that don’t come in a big enough size to cover all of my breast tissue, with skinny wings (the sides) that don’t provide any support, let alone able to strap down your puppies during heavy cardio like burpees or jumping jacks.
I may have a DDD/E cup size (the average in Canada is D) but that shouldn’t inhibit me from purchasing a high quality, well-fitting and supportive bra. And Lorna Jane has my vote (I’m a size L for reference).
They’re at Shops at Don Mills in Toronto so check them out!
