So going to the gym for your regular maintenance is just now an option due to gyms re-opening, but you might not be comfortable going in for whatever reason it may be (COVID related or not). I’m sure some of you were lucky enough to buy some equipment at the beginning of the lockdown (good for you!) or you have a small home gym to ensure you don’t lose whatever progress you’ve made.
Many people tend to purchase weights over anything else really, as dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells and plates all have various options of use, you just have to be creative. But the one piece of equipment that I rarely see people buy are resistance bands. These basic strips of latex (or latex-free for those with allergies) have an incredible amount of uses for any part of the body. I would post a video but it would go on forever as the options are literally endless.
There’s a large variety of bands to suit any need and go for around $5 per so you might as well invest in getting a bunch to truly have a variety to choose from, depending on your need. There’s different widths, lengths, closed loop or open, and of course various resistances. You can use these bad boys absolutely anywhere, and honestly anyone can use them. An athlete could use the heaviest band for quad strengthening, a senior can use the lightest for frozen shoulder rehab, or even myself using bands to assist in pull-ups.
But resistance bands can do more, they can help stretch and provide traction as well. Think of them as an extension of your hand for hard to hold positions.
I can go on and on but I wouldn’t want to bore you.
When purchasing, try to go to stores that supply exercise equipment as the prices will be much better (XTC Fitness in Mississauga is amazing, and I purchased my home gym through them). I LOVE Homesense, but their exercise products are definitely overpriced and have limited variety.
